2021 Full Class Ranking

Updated: Apr 19

Time to throw all previous rankings out the window.

This ranking is based on a few factors that I have taken into account: Size & Frame, Raw Athleticism, Football IQ (position specific), and readiness to play on the SEC level.

These 4 categories will be rated for each signee on a scale of 1-10.

As always, this is 100% my opinion and I could easily be wrong about some of these guys. This is my best guess after

thoroughly reviewing each player.

16. DE | Tobechi Okoli | 6’5 250 | Kansas City, MO

Size & Frame - 8

Raw Athleticism - 7

Football IQ - 5

SEC Readiness - 5

Okoli is a raw athlete with a ton of potential. He has great size and can bend the edge and pursue the ball carrier. Coach Eason will be happy to have a guy with his edge versatility.

15. DL | Ian Mathews | 6’5 290 | Columbus, GA

Size & Frame - 9

Raw Athleticism - 7

Football IQ - 4

SEC Readiness - 5

Ian Mathews is one of the more intriguing prospects to me. There are some unknowns with him. A few things we know: Major frame and athleticism, can be the lower man and becomes virtually unblockable. He has the ability to play as a nose or as a 5-technique.

14. OL | Garner Langlo | 6’7 280 | Ocala, FL

Size & Frame - 9

Raw Athleticism - 6

Football IQ - 7

SEC Readiness - 6

I‘m a fan of Langlo as a guy who could be versatile on the OL. He has the length of a tackle and the game of a guard: interesting combination. I think he’s also a great scheme and personality fit. In time, I think Langlo could be in the mix for a guard spot—maybe even RT.

13. S | Cayden Bridges | 6’2 195 | Magee, MS

Size & Frame - 7

Raw Athleticism - 7

Football IQ - 5

SEC Readiness - 6

Bridges is absolutely a diamond in the rough, IMO. I love his physicality and nose for the ball from the safety spot. I think he will need time to learn the position, but he‘s a guy who can bring a spark to the defense.

12. OT | Colby Smith | 6’8 320 | West End, NC

Size & Frame - 9.5

Raw Athleticism - 4

Football IQ - 7

SEC Readiness - 7

I give Colby Smith the edge over Langlo solely based on that elite frame. If Smith can continue to grow into his body, it’s a guarantee the Raw Athleticism category would rise. Coach Friend should be very excited to get to work with CS.

11. DB | Armani (AD) Diamond | 5’11 175 | Eight Mile, AL

Size & Frame - 4

Raw Athleticism - 8

Football IQ - 8

SEC Readiness - 5

I continue to be impressed with Diamond every time I see his tape. Diamond was a eye-catcher at the AL-MS All-Star game—and it may have been his reps in the WR DB 1on1’s. He is never fooled by routes and can stick and go as good as the elite DB‘s.

10. TE | Landen King | 6’5 225 | Humble, TX

Size & Frame - 8

Raw Athleticism - 7.5

Football IQ - 6

SEC Readiness - 8

Landen King has a crazy wing-span and a wide catch radius. He can line up in different spots and is a mismatch in all of them. The possibilities are truly endless. He will need to add weight and be able to block consistently.

9. S | Ahmari Harvey | 5’11 175 | Tallahassee, FL

Size & Frame - 5

Raw Athleticism - 7

Football IQ - 9

SEC Readiness - 7

Harvey, a 4 star safety, is a high IQ player: that’s what I love about him. He’s got a great understanding of positioning and coverages. Along with that, he‘s also speedy enough to break on the ball and make plays from different places on the field.

8. DB | Juwon Gaston | 5’11 190 | Montgomery, AL

Size & Frame - 6.5

Raw Athleticism - 9.5

Football IQ - 5

SEC Readiness - 6

I am giving Gaston the nod over Harvey here. That elite, confident athleticism is too hard to deny. He’s also a major threat to return a punt or kick; Watching him weave through traffic is impressive. Harvey is ahead of him in knowledge of the position—but that can be taught. The level of talent JG shows cannot.

7. DL | Marquis Robinson | 6’3 300 | Milton, FL

Size & Frame - 7

Raw Athleticism - 7

Football IQ - 7

SEC Readiness - 8

Who‘s the most underrated player in the class? My vote is on Robinson. MR is kind of a throw back to Dontavious Russell. I believe he will be a strong candidate for the nose spot. AU was lacking a strong plugger last year—I see Robinson stepping in and assuming that role.

6. LB | Joko Willis | 6’3 215 | La Grange, GA

Size & Frame - 8

Raw Athleticism - 9.5

Football IQ - 6

SEC Readiness - 8

This late addition was one I was really hoping would earn an offer. I’ve said a few times now that he’s a 3-level player. What does that mean? He can line up all over the field—at all 3 levels—and is still a threat to make a big play. I love his speed and size combination. I consider somewhat of a freak athlete.

5. WR | Tar’Varish Dawson | 5’10 175 | Lehigh Acres, FL

Size & Frame - 5

Raw Athleticism - 9

Football IQ - 8

SEC Readiness - 8

His size will not turn any heads, but his speed is as good as it gets. Keeping Dawson was a huge recruiting win for the new staff. TD reminds me of former Auburn Tiger, Ryan Davis, with more top-end speed. Unlike Anthony Schwartz, Dawson is able to make moves and find yards in traffic. I expect early playing time for Dawson.

4. DB | Kamal Hadden | 6’2 185 | Independence, KS

Size & Frame - 7.5

Raw Athleticism - 8

Football IQ - 9

SEC Readiness - 9

I’m probably higher on Hadden than most. I believe he’s lining up to be the most productive incoming player at Auburn for 2021. I love his length and how comfortable he is in man coverage: he is always under control and comfortable. His physicality in man coverage sometimes flashes shades of Carlton Davis. He needs some more weight and some work at true corner, but Hadden is a top prospect IMO.

3. WR | Hal Presley | 6’3 195 | Arlington, TX

Size & Frame - 8.5

Raw Athleticism - 8.5

Football IQ - 8

SEC Readiness - 9

Presley is a guy who received a ratings bump, but far too late. Regardless, plenty of schools saw what he was capable of. With the departure to the NFL by Seth Williams, AU needed another big bodied, strong handed receiver: Hal Presley is that guy. HP is another incoming freshman that I believe will get the chance to play early.

2. QB | Dematrius Davis | 5’11 200 | Houston, TX

Size & Frame - 4

Raw Athleticism - 8

Football IQ - 9.5

SEC Readiness - 7.5

What comes to mind with D. Davis? He’s a winner. Being a QB takes so many different things, but being a competitor must be apart of it. That’s why I love Davis: He‘s an unquestioned leader. I love his ability to stand in the pocket as well as take off and run with it. Seeing how he fits with the new system will be interesting.

1. DL | Lee Hunter | 6’5 310 | Eight Mile, AL

Size & Frame - 10

Raw Athleticism - 8

Football IQ - 6

SEC Readiness - 9

The Headliner: Lee Hunter. Its hard not to get excited about LH going into next season. He will surely have a role on the interior DL. He will look a lot like Derrick Brown when he puts the pads on. The work ethic and dedication must be there—and if he can make it work, he should have the whole package: huge, mean, strong, and relentless.
