Auburn 2022 Recruiting Board: Defensive Line

Auburn’s DL Board is not 100% clear yet, but the following is what we have gathered so far. It is fairly clear who the top targets are and who could ultimately end up in the class.

With the recent additions of Marcus Harris and Tony Fair, Auburn has allowed itself to be more selective for this position. Could this and the help of former teammate Marcus Harris help with number 1 target, Khurtiss Perry? Very possible.

Here is a full look at the Auburn DL board as of 5/22/21

Perry sits high atop the Auburn DL board. He more than likely sits right near the top 5-10 in the entire 2022 class. Perry is a guy who has been an impact player since the first snap of his first varsity game back in 10th grade. He is a game plan wrecker. With one of the best get-offs, and move sets in the DL class, he’s able to spend most of his time in an opponents backfield.

Auburn has its work cut out for it here. Alabama is more than likely the favorite and have been for a while. Luckily for Auburn, regardless of coaching staff, he has been recruited for a long timeβ€”he has also been on campus plenty of times. He will make his way back as soon as the dead period is lifted and Nick Eason should be credited for building a quick bond with Perry. The longer Perry goes uncommitted, the better I like AU’s chancesβ€”and this should drag out for a while.

Caden Story, like Riley Quick, has a sibling at rival Alabama, but Auburn has a good shot with. In this case, Auburn has a better shot than anyone. Story seems to have hit it off the new staff, especially Nick Eason. I see CS as a 4 star prospect based on his excellent frame and strong ability. I see Story right now as being somewhat raw as a DL and sometimes lacking a quick get-off. He's a guy who dominates opponents without having to be at a level 10 intensity and effort level. That, of course, will change in college, but the ability cannot be denied here.

Baudoin was an early eval for the staff. I think he has one of the higher ceilings on this class. I love his mobility as a guy who is close to 300 pounds. More than likely Baudoin will be an inside guy, but his quickness could translate to the 5 technique as well. I think he has just begun to tap into his big potentialβ€”definitely a strong candidate to receive a ratings bump from me.
I think Auburn has positioned itself well here and is at the top of his list, if not the leader. They will get him on campus in June, and if that goes well there’s a good chance Auburn would be hard to beat.

Artis is another that the new staff identified extremely early. He was offered back in January, less than a month after Coach Harsin was hired. Artis is another that has so much potential but hasn’t come close to reaching it yet. He has grown since his junior year and should be primed for a breakout season. I’m not at all familiar with the competition level of New York High School Football, but Artis is a stand out by appearance and by his ability.

What we know is that Auburn and Nick Eason love Artis. We don’t know for sure that Auburn is at the top, but we know he’s part of his top 7 group; We also know that he will officially visit to Auburn in June. Could Auburn pull a big one from New York? Would that be a first? To my knowledge it would be.

Aaron Bryant is a name you should start to hear more and more. Auburn got an offer out to Bryant before he really started to blow up. He was unrated by most major recruiting sites (I had him at a 4 star 93.8 rating the day after he was offered by AU).

IMO, Bryant is a top-tier DL that Auburn absolutely has a chance with. How would I know this? I briefly spoke with Bryant and a coach on staff at Southaven. When asked if Auburn would be a factor, the answer by both was β€œyesβ€œ. He has been rather quiet but It is clear that his top 10 are Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Indiana, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Auburn in no particular order. This is one to track.

Speaking of players whose stock is on the rise, Chris McClellan has picked up steam and isn't slowing down. Auburn joined in on the party along with many others and hopes to get him on campus soon. McClellan has one of the best motors in the country. He comes off the ball full speed and is violent with his hands. He’s virtually unblockable on the high school level. He recently received a bump from all recruiting sites, when I saw him, I knew that was apparent and gave him a high 4 star rating.

Being that Auburn is targeting so many players from previously uncharted territoryβ€”in this case Michiganβ€”it is hard to get intel on these guys. We know that Auburn made VanSumerenβ€˜s top group and that is significant due to how far away and how late they were to offer him.

I always tend to appreciate a high motor player. VanSumeren is not going to be the guy who NFL scouts notice by appearance, but when you turn on his tape, he’s a wild man. I love his style and his grit on the interior DL.

Emory is a nice looking prospect from Texas who very recently earned an Auburn offer. Based on his offer list, Auburn is definitely one of the top schools that have reached out to him. Still learning about him and his recruitment. As a player, he’s a guy who is 100% an Inside DL. He’s going to do well against double teams and plays with good pad level.

Wiggins was another early offer. If LSU turns up the heat, heβ€˜d be tough to steal away from their backyard. But first, he will take a look at Auburn in June. Probably one of the most significant frame of any DL I’ve seen in the class. He’s very raw at the moment and is still growing: He’s got the NFL look. I have him rated lower than most because I think he’s got a long way to go mechanics wise, but he’s a major player waiting to happen.
