Auburn 2022 Recruiting Board: Wide Receiver

A look at Auburn’s current receiver board. This boardβ€”unlike the RB boardβ€”will contain a bit more speculation due to it being more fluid. We know who sits at the top, but after that it seems to still be taking shape.

These are all receivers AU has actively recruited since hiring a new staff. In my opinion the evaluation by the new staff for this position group has been significant. Some major players here.

Clemons is one of the most dynamic receivers in the 22’ class. He’s got length, speed, and the ability to create separationβ€”which may be his best attribute. He’s capable of being a major deep threat on the college level wherever he chooses to play. Auburn considers him a must-get and he could easily be the number 1 Target at receiver. He will officially visit Auburn in June.

Omari Kelly, from nearby Hewitt-Trussville, is absolutely near the top of the AU receiver board. He’s a local guy at a major football school and stands out athletically. Kelly is a strong and powerful receiver; His hands are big, he has long arms, and he’s great at high pointing the ball in 50/50 situations. Auburn is aided here by Holden Geriner and Riley Quick, a teammate and big AU Target as well. Kelly will more than likely be at Auburn in June for an unofficial visit.

Williams is one of the better play makers at receiver in the 2022 class. He has a knack for making a play after the catch. Great route running ability to go with it. Another that sits high on the AU boardβ€”as well as many other boards. According to Keith Niebuhr from 247sports, Williams will be having his first in-person look at Auburn in the summer. Holden Geriner has said that he was personally working on AW.

Latreal Jones is an interesting case at the moment. A big bodied, JUCO receiver who is still in the process of earning bigger offers. Auburn was first to extend an offer, however, and is considered the favorite. It seems as though Auburn is being patient as they sort out the receiver board as well as the numbers for the class. Jones is an impressive straight line speed guy and can go up and take away the football from smaller DB’s. He reminds me at times of former Auburn receiver, Sammie Coates: Big, strong, fast, and ability to take the top off of a defense.

Fair was an early eval for the new staff. They identified him as a top slot target and are still working very hard to land him. He is a track speed guy with elusiveness in the open fieldβ€”not just straight line speed. He’s great kick and punt returner as well. A perfect fit for what Harsin and Bobo want in a slot receiver. He is scheduled for a June Official Visit, but it seems TCU is trending right now. This will be one to watch.

Allen was recently offered by AU and seems to be very open to the Tigers. He is a top option for the slot receiver in the country IMO. Very smooth in and out of breaks, able to plant and go with ease, and has filled out a good bit going into his senior year. His acceleration stands out to me as he’s able to burst off of the LOS in his routes. Auburn will be working to get Allen on campus soon.

Marquarius, AKA: Squirrel, is one I identified early as a top talent in the state of Alabama. While having the build of a slot guy, White is versatile because of his elite route running ability. He really picked up some steam in the last month with offers from Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, and more. Auburn has turned up the heat and is trending in the right direction for this one time sleeper target.

Pope is one of the more versatile guys on this list. He’s a guy that plays on both sides of the ballβ€”which isn’t unusualβ€”but for a guy his size, his is extremely physical; As a safety he is a guy who will come down and make plays in the run game. As a receiver he’s a guy who can make plays in traffic as well as take hand offs and get loose down the sideline. He has sticky hands as well. Auburn will get Pope on an OV in June. It’s unclear right now where he stands with AU. The visit should provide some answers.

CJ Smith is a guy with great length and a really high ceiling. He has a good understanding of how to get open and create separation with his speed and cutting ability. For a guy his size, the speed is elite. Heβ€˜s a guy you can throw a jump ball to, or use to take the top off of a defense. Somewhat raw right now as he’s learning the game and how to control his body and speed, but has major talent and potential.

Smooth route runner, strong hands and the ability to high point the ball in the air. Some ability to make people miss after the catch as well.

A tall and rangy receiver. He’s pretty nifty in the open field and can go up and over defenders. Route running is not too bad either. Good looking receiver prospect.

Massive frame with the need for more weight, there aren’t many who can out jump him, but he’s good enough to run the route tree and be a mismatch at the wideout position.
